Spring Lake Park High School fall play - Our Town

Synopsis: Our Town presents the small town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die.
Message from Director Kevin Dutcher: Some classics are revered by literary scholars but don’t necessarily find much traction with the rest of us. And then there are shows like “Our Town,” which is as charming and wonderful as a fresh loaf of bread out of your grandma’s oven. No work in the theater canon means more to me, and I am thrilled to bring it back to our stage a dozen years after our last production. Once again it will be in the round, bringing its humor and poignancy right into your laps. Come sit a spell with us in Grovers Corners, and warm your heart and soul.

In order to make it back home they’ll need to use their collective wits to help the rulers solve their differences and bring peace to the land. Chock full of good humor and catchy songs, this musical will delight the whole family!
Message from Director Kevin Dutcher: The last time we did this show was during the pandemic. The kids all wore masks for rehearsals and performances, and they did a wonderful job. You and your family will love this funny, silly show with all of its delightful songs, and I am looking forward to actually being able to recognize all of the students!

Spring Lake Park High School One-Act play - slasreveR neveS
Synopsis: Reverse the title of this large-cast comedy and what do you get? A fast-paced parody and exploration of reversals in seven short scenes. A stereotypical villain plays the part of the innocent victim. The stage lighting in a Chekhov scene directly opposes everything the three actresses are saying. And a play runs completely backwards from end to beginning, including the actual words...

Westwood Middle School (grades 7-8) play - Seussical Junior

Synopsis: Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
Message from Director Kevin Dutcher: In February 2020 our high schoolers started rehearsing that year’s musical – “Seussical.” We had a couple weeks of learning the incredible score, and we started staging some of the numbers. And then the world stopped. It’s time to revisit it - this time in its Jr. version for our 7/8 grade students. Come and see this incredibly talented group of young actors bring Horton, Maisey and the stories of Dr. Seuss to life with all of the fun and zaniness (and stunning music) that you would expect from this brilliant author!
