Live on 65: Up Close and Personal with Joyann Parker
The “Live on 65” performance series welcomes Joyann Parker to the Spring Lake Park High School Fine Arts Center stage Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 7 p.m. Enjoy this accomplished singer, pianist, guitarist and songwriter with layers of soul, gospel, blues, and jazz.
Joyann, a steadily rising musical star on the Midwest music scene, is from Minneapolis. She is a regular performer at Crooner’s Supper Club in Fridley and many other locations around the metro area and beyond. With a voice reminiscent of Janis Joplin, and roots in the church, Joyann Parker’s authentic style layers soul, gospel, blues, jazz and more.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from the Spring Lake Park Lion's Club, tickets are priced for the whole family to attend. Tickets can be purchased online or day-of at the box office.
Live on 65: You perform gospel, blues, Patsy Cline and more. What drew you to those differing music genres?
Joyann: I have a big library of music in my head. My mom and dad listened to the Beach Boys and old-time gospel. I love American music. Blues, which is the base of all American music, came to me later.
Live on 65: What or who is on your current playlist?
Joyann: Vintage music, mostly oldies and old gospel. I love Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Linda Rondstadt, Bob Dylan. I love old country like Emmy Lou Harris and Patsy Cline. I love music I can feel, feel the honesty in the story the artist is telling me and that it’s real for them.
Live on 65: Share a little about how you choose which music to perform.
Joyann: I am a bottle of all those different genres, and I just write. I just make art that is honest, real and original. I perform a few covers, but I don’t record covers.
Live on 65: Tell us about your passion for music education.
Joyann: I started piano lessons when I was four. In college, I studied to be a band director and taught for three and a half years. Music history was a big part of my college studies, and it sparked my interest. Now as a band leader, my school band experience helps me. It gave me the language, which also helps with production. I know the instruments and can communicate how I want our songs to sound. I can still play the drums too!
Live on 65: Is there a performance or recording that makes you most proud?
Joyann: We have a new album, called “Life Lines,” dropping on March 27. I think I used to write more of the “I should” things. With “Life Lines,” I wrote more for me, the “I want” things. I didn’t have that self-awareness with earlier albums.
Live on 65: Will we be able to buy “Life Lines” at the March 19 Live on 65 show?
Joyann: Yes! We should have vinyl and CDs available for purchase. You can visit my website now and pre-order.
Live on 65: Let us in on a surprising truth about your musical career.
Joyann: When I started 13 years ago, I was 34 years old. You’re never too old. Earlier in my life I wouldn’t have been able to sing or write the way I do now. I don’t have an agent or a record label. I write, produce, market, schedule, take care of social media. Just me.
Live on 65: Any Spring Lake Park connection?
Joyann: Not directly, but growing up, we lived in Andover, and my parents still live in Blaine. My family and I are in the Minneapolis area.
