Westwood Choir

5th choir is held during the school day on Mondays and Tuesdays, September-December, 2025. Please reach out to Mrs. Geist for more information. Registration is open through November 1.

6^th grade choir is held during the school day and is chosen by the students as their music elective in their specialist rotation. All rehearsals take place during the normal instructional time, and students perform in two concerts each year, December and May. Every student in 6th grade is welcome to join the choir, regardless of past experience! Students will learn the basics of music theory, and build upon a firm foundation to learn intermediate levels of music reading. Singers will learn how to sing in unison, two-part harmonies, and more! There is no fee to participate in this choir. No pre-requisites needed. 

Middle schoolers have the opportunity to join the 7th grade choir! All singers are welcome to join this inclusive ensemble as we build upon previously learned choir skills. Singers will review the basics of choral singing with music theory and begin to sing in three- and four-part harmonies with more complex lyrics, varied musical genres, solo opportunities, and more. 7^th grade choir is an elective choice at the middle school level, and students rehearse every other day on an A and B day schedule. Three concerts are performed with the 8th grade choir and they are held in November, January, and May. No pre-requisites needed. 

8^th graders may join the 8th grade choir as an elective choice to sing and learn new music in a supportive environment! Every singer is welcome to join us as we build upon learned choral skills in elementary school and move into more advanced choral singing by performing in SAB and SATB arrangements. Singers will learn more complicated music theory and find more independence in their choral singing experience. This choir helps to prepare students for 9th grade choir and life-long choral singing! Three concerts are performed with the 7^th grade choir and they are held in November, January, and May. No pre-requisites needed. 

Any student in 5th, 6th, and 6th "Extra Band Choir" at Westwood is welcome to audition for the Minnesota state honor choir! Recorded auditions are held at Westwood and submitted to the state judges in January. Interested students must fill out an audition form and return the form and audition fee to Mrs. Geist. If students are accepted, they may perform at the state honor choir festival in the spring. Find more information about ACDA.
